Here at Java Fitness, we encourage everyone (particularly those pursuing a weight loss program) to keep track of their food intake by keeping a daily food log.  Virtually all of our clients who have succeeded in reaching their body composition goals have maintained a food diary.  This type of mindful eating can teach us a great deal about our eating habits and patterns and help us to find more balance in our diet.  The research in this area supports the results we have experienced.  See, e.g., http://www.sciencedaily.com.
