Randi (nicknamed “Java” by a dear friend) is the President and Founder of Java Fitness.


A former international trade attorney, Randi Turner Orava is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer.  She holds additional NASM specialist certifications in Corrective Exercise, Fitness Nutrition, Weight Loss, and Group Personal Training.  Believing that mindfulness and diversity of movement are essential to a well-rounded fitness program (and that everyone needs to dance more in life), Randi is also a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (200) and is certified in Zumba and TRX Suspension Training instruction.  Randi holds a B.A. in Psychology and French Language and Literature from Boston University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.  She is certified in adult and child CPR and AED by the American Heart Association and is a member of the IDEA Health and Fitness Association.


Randi has been training herself and others for over 25 years.  Prior to practicing law, Randi directed several children’s day camps in the Washington, D.C. area and, for many years, coached children's gymnastics, soccer, and t-ball.  Throughout her career as an international corporate lawyer, Randi continued to pursue her passion for fitness—attending and teaching pre-dawn boot camps; exploring diverse classes and gyms around the globe; and training colleagues and friends.  For close to 15 years of private law firm practice (and after the birth of two children), Randi “found time” to prioritize fitness and to motivate others to do the same.  Randi formally founded Java Fitness in 2010.  Now a full-time fitness and wellness coach (with a special interest in obesity and weight loss), Randi is uniquely qualified to support her clients in finding a balance that works for them.



Esther is a NASM certified personal trainer with a specialization in corrective exercise and a Bachelor's in biology from Duke University. From an early age, Esther competed in a multitude of sports from basketball to ballet. In high school, she turned her attention to running, securing a berth on the Canadian National Team in the 800 and earning a scholarship to Duke. Seeking a competitive outlet after the conclusion of her NCAA Track and Cross Country career, Esther has taken to triathlons, quickly becoming one of the top female athletes in the Mid-Atlantic area with overall wins at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Age Groups Championships and runner-up finishes at Rev3 Williamsburg in both 2015 and 2016. Esther firmly believes in the healing power of exercise and well-being and takes great pride in helping her clients realize their goals in health and fitness.

 Angela is a functional patterns inspired trainer specializing in injury prevention and posture. After studying psychology at the University of Maryland, she went on to do scientific research at Walter Reed, investigating traumatic brain injury. After ten years and seeing how integral movement was to our health and well being, she switched careers and earned her yoga teaching certification from Willow Street Yoga Center and her personal training certification from NASM. Angela currently uses the functional patterns movement system to improve the quality of movement for her clients, which often translates to a greater quality of life overall. She empowers her clients to connect to their bodies in a greater way and understand how to best align themselves with gravity. Her unique approach to fitness is designed to counteract the negative effects of chronic stress prevalent in our culture and prevent common injuries from poorly aligned movement and sitting for prolonged periods of time. Angela is passionate about seeing her clients thrive in every way and is committed to positively changing our world.




 Amanda is a certified ACE trainer in addition to carrying certifications in Spin, Metabolic Effect and PiYo Strength. Growing up as a competitive golfer, she always valued an active lifestyle, which she continued when she moved to the DMV area for college. She began a career in fitness while pursuing her BA at GWU in International Affairs and Geography.  Amanda focuses on pushing her clients to their maximum potential through creative and engaging workouts. She believes that your body knows no limits, it's the mind that needs training; your workout should be molded to fit you, not the other way around. Amanda's experience comes from having trained an array of clients, ranging from college athletes to post-rehab. Currently, she's spending her spare time training to compete in various Olympic lifting divisions. Check out her profile in Active Life DC!

Exercise is our fountain of youth.  True fitness is not about the size of your jeans or how many dimples you think you can count on your thighs.  It is about strength and confidence and taking control of your health and your body (inside and out)—as best you can within your unique, genetic imprint.


We, at Java Fitness, have had the privilege of introducing and reintroducing many clients to the joys and benefits of physical fitness.  We have also supported a number of people in their transformation from clinically obese to healthy, fit, and fabulous advocates of a healthy and realistic lifestyle.  Dramatic change takes time, patience, and commitment.  If approached properly, however, the changes are everlasting and life-affirming.  There is an athlete in each of us!
